Syndicating Project Risk

October 15th, 2014 by ProOrbis

Jeanne DiFrancesco, principal, was recently featured in an article by Dr. Peter Cappelli, Professor of Management and director of the Center for Human Resources at The Wharton School of University of Pennsylvania. In the article, Professor Cappelli and Jeanne DiFrancesco address an issue common in organizations that emphasize greater individual accountability, as many organizations are trending towards.  People are too frequently unwilling to endorse and invest their energy into a project where they share little responsibility in the outcome. Project managers understand this as they, too, want to minimize any risk of criticism. Jeanne DiFrancesco dubbed this phenomenon as “syndicating risk,” and says that the issue is lessened in organizations that use objective metrics such as return on investment.
